Self-Care for Moms
Why is self care important for moms?
Let's just be honest, being a mom can be challenging to put it simply. Moms are always on the go, taking care of endless tasks and always taking care of loved ones. With so much on mom's plate finding time for self-care seems to be the first thing left out of an already busy schedule.
Mayo Clinic defines self-care as "The practice of caring for one's own health, well-being and happiness."
Mom, making time for yourself may feel indulgent or even selfish but that is so far from the truth. Moms are the greatest treasure and gift in our world. Biological, adopted, fur and more all of your children need you, the world needs you and we need you to be happy and healthy. When Mama's happy, well you know π❤️π✨πΉ
We all know that self- care is important so how do we move that into practice and make self-care a priority for happy and healthy lives. Even small acts of self-kindness can go a long way in decreasing the feelings of exhaustion, burnout, stress and even depression that busy mothers sometimes feel.
Here are some quick tips on how you can add self-care throughout the day.
Focus on some basic lifestyle habits
- Do your best to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. I know this is a tough one for some of us. Diffusing lavender essential oil helps my child an I fall and stay asleep on most nights.
- Drink more water-Some experts say about 6 to 8 glasses a day is ideal. Increase your water intake by one glass every day or every week. Start small and at your own pace. The goal is progress not perfection.
- Avoid sugar drinks and watch your caffeine intake
- Add more fresh fruit and vegetables to your diet. Ok, this is a hard one for some of us too, lately I have been stopping by local my supermarket with a fresh salad bar. I get a fresh salad and a natural juice for lunch and go right back to my workday.
- Make a date with yourself- at least once a week. Schedule some me time to do what you like to do for yourself, get your nails done, read a book, take a nap. What ever it is, do it guilt free.
- Take a ten minute break, focus on breathing deeply, meditating or repeating positive affirmations.
- Move your body for at least 10-15 minutes a day. Walk, dance or workout. Do what feels good. Avoid activity that adds any sort of stress and or anxiety to your body.
